Description

This is a two days sawbone and cadaveric course that will cover the principles of orthopaedic surgical skills in knee arthroplasty

Target audience

Aimed at ST1—ST4 Orthopaedic trainees, FY2 doctors and SAS grades who would like to gain experience in the principles of knee arthroplasty. Numbers are limited to 18 delegates

Aims and objectives

To provide training in basic principles of knee arthroplasty, the surgical technique for the knee joint surgical approach and ligament balancing and the technique of knee arthroplasty

• Review and consolidation of online material
• Pre-operative planning
• Patient specific instrumentation
• Cadaveric practice on surgical approach to the knee joint and ligament balancing
• Practical sawbone sessions for tibial and femoral preparation
• Cementing technique
• X-ray case discussion

Learning outcomes:

Recognize the aspects of knee arthroplasty relating to total knee replacement biomechanics, rationale and instrumentation for knee replacement, pre-operative planning, surgical approaches, ligament balancing, alternative options for knee arthroplasty, principles of cementing and surgical steps of knee arthroplasty.
